Measures of Extension

Reversal of the compressor station MEGAL-Waidhaus

Description of the project

As part of the German gas Network Development Plan (NDP Gas 2015), GRTgaz Deutschland and Open Grid Europe are planning to reverse the compressor station at Waidhaus to allow physical flow from Germany to the Czech Republic.

The main part of the project consists of extending the DN1000 pipeline as well as adding new valves in order to filter, measure and eventually compress the gas flowing from Germany.

The construction work started in April 2017.  Commissioning is expected for the end of the third quarter 2017.

The planned reversal of the compressor station MEGAL*-Waidhaus will now enable natural gas flows up to 2,000,000 m³n/h from NetConnect Germany into Central and Eastern Europe.

New Compressor Station in Rothenstadt

Description of the project

As part of the national Gas Network Development Plan (NDP Gas 2014), GRTgaz Deutschland and Open Grid Europe are planning to build a new MEGAL* compressor station of 45 MW at Rothenstadt.

The project calls for a comprehensive package of measures, including three new gas turbine-driven compressor units of 15 MW each complete with ancillary systems such as station inlet filters, meter runs and gas coolers. In addition, a new interconnection station will be built to connect the new station to the existing gas transmission networks.

The works started in March 2016 following the completion of the approval procedure. Commissioning is expected for the end of 2018.

The planned compressor station will provide the storages in Austria with more capacity and increase the capacity of the high-pressure gas transmission system for transportation from north to south and south to north.

New Compressor Station in Rimpar

Project description

According to the German Gas Network Development Plan 2016 (NEP 2016), MEGAL* has to build a new compressor station at the existing compressor station in Rimpar, Bavaria, in order to compress gas volumes coming from the existing MEGAL I + II lines. The connections to the existing pipelines of Open Grid Europe (OGE) also have to be modified.
The objective of the new Rimpar compressor station is primarily to compress gas volumes of the MEGAL I + II pipes. Furthermore, the compression of volumes in the direction to or from the north is to be implemented. Therefore, this measure creates additional capacity, especially in the south-north direction within the NCG market area.
The Rimpar station consists of three compressor units and their auxiliary and ancillary systems (station entry filters, metering sections, station gas coolers, central blower and torch system ...). The compressors will be operated in parallel and driven by gas turbines.

Extension of Mittelbrunn Compressor Station

Description of the project

As part of the implementation of the 2015 German gas Network Development Plan, the Mittelbrunn station will be extended to include two new installations.

On the one hand, a new gas pressure measuring and control system is to be built at the Mittelbrunn site, with the aim of transporting larger volume flows of up to 2 million Nm³ / h between the MEGAL and the TENP. Simultaneously, a new gas pressure regulation system is to be built which will allow a gas feed-in mode from the TENP to the MEGAL when the operating pressure of the MEGAL is higher.

The project consists of the following necessary measures: conversion of metering sections with filters and ultrasonic metering systems in series, construction of new controlled systems and modification of related connecting pipelines.

Extension of Gernsheim gas Regulation and Metering Station

Description of the project

The new gas pressure regulation and metering station in Gernsheim will supply the storage facilities in Austria with additional transport capacities and will increase the efficiency of the natural gas transport system in the South-North Transport of Germany.

As part of the implementation of the German gas Network Development Plan 2015, the regulation and metering system Gernsheim MEGAL 1 will be extended so that it can measure gas volumes of up to 2.0 MNm³ / h in the south / north direction.

The work to be carried out consist mainly of the construction of a new filter system, as well as the construction of new pipelines which are to connect to the existing pipelines MEGAL 1 and 2. The gas pressure regulation and metering capability of the system is also reinforced using new equipment (ultrasonic meters and control valves).
